These game companies want money as soon as they can. So, they are not looking for the perfect product but the good enough one for release and fix the bugs later.

I think, that kind of mentality will hurt them in the long run.

Note that they were already licensing, so the reason they are licensing now is more "not to get sued" than "accelerating tasks which were already accelerated".

I didn't know that. I just remember how they were so arrogant that PC's couldn't do jack (and they were right at the time). :/

If you go back 25 years, I think that that at time you pretty much couldn't have used pcs for rendering videos and special effects. If you had been using pcs at that time, for that type of job, you'd still be processing videos wich were release in 2000. :)
