My daughters computer crashed out big time. it will do NOTHING. itll turn on, and sort of load, but thats about it. Since I am disabled and unable to rush out and spend $500-$1000 on a new one for her, i thought about just replacing the hard drive. i have XP to install on this new disk. is there anything weird i need to keep my eyes open for when doing this? And is it "ok" to take one out and put a new one in?

Should be able to install XP A-OK. But, odds are you'll need the drive cd that came with the pc and will need to install drivers off of it.

You can generally get drivers from the manufacturer's web site, assuming you have a brand name computer.

If you made it yourself, you will need to go to the individual component maker's site.

Post the brand and model number and we can tell you more.
