Hello peeps, I just bought Red Faction (sweet game) and I am having a little problem...
Whenever I try to run the game, I get the following message...

Error: Unable to initialize DirectX 8.0 -- Device Creation Failed!
File:C:/projects/RF_PC/vsdk/gr/directx/gr_direct3d.cpp - Line 1885
A Critical Error has occured and the program cannot continue. Click OK to exit.

Now, the really weird thing is, that if I reboot my machine a few times, it will eventually work....

I already reinstalled DirectX 8.0, I updated my video drivers...

weird...

heres the info the DirectX Diagnostic tool gave me...

Strange, looks like a debug message. Where did you get that DirectX version from? Is there a c:\projects\... folder on your system?? Probably not.

Ok I have this same Problem...
Or well the same symptoms but different cause probably.

Im running XP and have been playing RF fine on my Radion Sapphire x1950 Pro
But the moment I go and get new drivers the game comes up with the same problem and whats worse is that all Direct3D trials fail in DXDiag.

So I have been led to believe that the Drives have failed and spat the dummy so to speak.

About the file it is a bug in compiling the game by developers where the used C:/projects... as the rot file to compile the .VPP files in so they say thats the folder thats screwing up. Its not its actually the .VPP files not recognizing that they are in a different place.

Don't worry about that it is 100% normal.

=P

I hope this helps a little.
But you should just have to roll back you drivers for your Video Card.
