Problems with J. River Media

I downloaded the latest free trial version of the media player, but I'm having some issues with playing video on it. When I fast forward and hit play, the video locks up on one frame and the sound sometimes continues. Then either the system immediately then freezes up (no response to mouse or keyboard), or if I am able to close the progam I do so and the system either freezes up or becomes extremly slow-responding. I've tried nero showtime and was able to fast forward/rewind without issues. Any ideas as to what may be causing this (software or hardware)? Are there any tests I can do to rule out the video card?

Have you posted at the official forums? You will probably get a response directly from one of the developers there. My best guess is that it's a codec issue, but usually a dodgy codec doesn't crash a computer, it just doesn't play the video correctly. Nero Showtime may use it's own built-in codecs for rendering while Media Center may rely on third party codecs and Directshow filters.
