Loop Current Too High. What does this mean?

Got this from my PC when I tried to dialup "Loop Current Too High. Please Check telephone line connection". Dont know what it means. Can anyone explain to me? I cannot connect to the net bcoz of this msg.

Not being a phone techie, my limited knowledge of phone systems tells me that the phone system looks for a certain change in impedance in the equipment when the handset is picked up (or the modem picks the line up). This results in an increase in current

Your modem may be smart enough to determine the amount of current flowing through it and flags an error if the connection (or equipment) is bad.

My suggestion would be to try a different phone lead and/or a different phone line. If it continues after that I'd say your modem is in trouble.

I have never heard of this or knew it was possible. Please let us know what you find out in the end.
