Intentional underclocking

Yes it does sound like a NFL penalty (the signal might be tapping your wristwatch followed by pushing your palm straight down)

Let's say your mobo will only support 100mhz, or you have a big investment in PC-100 RAM (or both for that matter). Let's say you have a PII-350, and now the new PIV-800's are emerging You want to speed up your Adobe apps - taking advantage of SMID. What happens if you underclock the chip, at 100mhz * 5.0/5.5/6.0x? I realize that a PIII-500/550/600 will be cheaper, but for the future, upgrading the mobo and RAM later will be cheaper than buying a 450 chip now, then buying a 800 chip later.
