Hi everyone,

Got a question about extending my wireless network.

My connection goes like...

Modem > Netgear WNDR4000 > Computer.

What I want to do is utilise my old Netgear WPN824v2 to extend wireless connectivity towards the back of the house.

I know that I can't do wireless repeating with the WPN824v2, but can I do it wired? So the WPN824v2 will just plug into one of the LAN ports of the WNDR4000. Will this work or do I need to buy new hardware to achieve this?

Thanks!

No new hardware required.

The Netgear should be able to function as a Wireless Access Point (WAP).
Example/instructions of Netgear WPN824 configured as a WAP,

Remember to configure the WPN824 before connecting to your existing network.

It would mean you have 2 wireless networks, but I would agree with Shinma's suggestion. My experience with extending range on wireless networks by repeating has generally proven to be a waste of time (and money).

That's alright, as long as it still works it's all good with me.

I'd rather go with something that will work rather than trying to get something dodgy to work half decent.
