I have a problem using my CD-rom drive with Win 95 - I can only read 8.3 filenames. I have been told not to load the old driver files during startup - this way Windows should recognize the CD-drive and install the atapi driver. This does not work. Help!

Try using Mitsumi drivers for your
cd-rom instead of the atapi drivers.
These work pretty well and are
universal with cd-rom drives.

If that does not work use the sample.sys off the windows 95 setup floppy disk to replace the drive and see how that goes.
Good Luck.

You can also use your bios to autodetect your hard disk again, which ever your cd rom (prmary slave or secondary master or slave), just press escape during the detection attempt instead of choosing 1(Y). You should be able to correct your problem.
