Is it windows 10, try to reinstall the drivers.
Leave more details on your computer model, wi-fi adaptor, and OS edition so we can help you more.

follow these steps to connect the laptop with wi-fi
a) In Microsoft Windows XP click Start, then Control Panel, and then Network and Internet Connections. ...
b) Double-click the connection of the Network
c) Right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon and select Properties
d) Click the Wireless Networks tab to connect the wi-fi with the laptop... while connecting laptop and Wi-Fi must consider in mind about the gateway through which you are connecting your system with the network.

To fix the error of the laptop follows these steps:
  1. Insert the installation media into the computer.
  2. After that Boot it through the media
  3. After that Click Next on the Windows Setup menu.
  4. After that Click "Repair the computer."
  5. Choose the Troubleshoot.
  6. Select "Advanced options."
  7. Pick "Command Prompt."
  8. Type Bootrec and press the enter key.....
