Toshiba laptop problem

I tried to add 256MB PC133 ram and the BIOS said that was fine, so did DOS (from win98 boot disk). WindowsME just shows the splash screen and resets the machine.

So.... I changed it for a PC100 module and that did nothing, BIOS and DOS still have no problem with memory size... its just WinME.

Short of a Win98SE install (which isn't viable) what can I do?

Are you adding 2 128's or one 256?

If a single 256, it may be a memory density issue.

1 x 256MB PC100 module (Transcend)

The memory upgrade information talks about 2 slots. This laptop only has a single slot.

The BIOS accepts the memory as does DOS it must be that piece of crap WinME

I do think that this laptop is a re-release version.

8200 series Toshiba
64MB RAM
DVD-ROM
WinME
3.2GB HDD (i think)


I'll have to try Win98SE after I ghost the HDD.

Why can't laptops just be like small computers - not stripped back, cut up no frills annoyances (BIOS wise)
