I'm building a new PC but I can't decide which brand of DVD-Rom to get. The following are all about the same price,
Pioneer 40x16x DVD ROM drive (Tray)
LiteOn 40x16x DVD ROM drive
LG 40x16x DVD ROM drive
Samsung 40x16x DVD ROM drive
Sony 40x16x DVD ROM drive
Toshiba 40x16x DVD ROM drive
I want a quiet but good drive that doesn't have any problems reading DVD's, which do you think would be the best choice?

It somewhat depends on what you are going to use the drive for. If you are going to use it as a source drive for DAE (digital audio extraction) for say ripping or audio CD copying then I would choose the liteon LTD-163 40x/16x as it is a far better performer at those tasks.

But, if you can still find the Creative 16x DVD at NewEgg, it works very well for both ripping audio and watching DVD's for a low cost of $45US. Mine has been flawless since I bought it.
I recently picked up an Asus DVD-E616. I purchased it on the merits of it's CD-ROM counterparts being very highly regarded (by myself and others) and the fact that it supports ATA100 making it one of the fastest DVD-ROM's available.
