Modem problem---very unusual

Dear Chaps,

A friend asked me to look at his modem setup.

He has a PC Chips 599 LMR with onboard modem. It is installed OK

The problem is that when you connect to the internet, it logs on to the ISP but explorer or Outlook Express is unable to find the server.

I've tried with the latest drivers--dosen't help.

Does his ISP make the users specify the DNS address for the tcp\ip? Check that out....

No, it dosen't.

Also I#ve checked it out with my ISP--which dosen't require a DNS. Still dosen't work

Any suggestions?

Since you're getting connected, that tells us that the ISP is configured, at least enough to connect.

The IE browswer may need a repair. In Control Panel, Add Remove, scroll down to Internet Explorer 5 etc. Choose to remove it, and you'll be prompted with 3 choices. Choose Repair.

What message are you receiving? It will be at the top of the Browser if there is a DNS error or malfunction in your configuration files.
