    looking for a fast hard drive

    hi guys:
    I'm looking for a good hard drive, which one is the fastest? many people told about Quntum and maxtor, but which one is faster than the other?

    Depends on who is doing the benchmarking.

    I like the IBM Deskstar 75GXP but Maxtors are good too.

    IBM Deskstar 75GXP.

    Its a 7,200rpm ATA-100 drive. I've got one. Its stunningly fast (about twice the speed of my old Seagate), whisper quiet and amazingly cheap too.

    Best IDE drive on the market bar none.
    Athlon XP 3200+, TT Silent Boost (its rubbish as well as loud) Gigabyte nForce2 mobo (stable but lacks tweaking options), GF4 Ti4200 128mb, Lian-Li V2000

    Can't forget the fastest HDD in the world today:

    Seagate Cheetah X15
    15,000 rpm
    3.9 ms seek time
    Ultra160 SCSI

    Of course, SCSI drives are in a league of their own, and this is probably way more expensive than you're looking for.

    I had the opportunity to use one of those IBM Deskstar 75GXP drives, and I can agree that they are excellent. Very fast and very quiet. What more could you ask for? My friend got it at the Computer Show for about $131 + tax I think (30 GB).

    Why is it $5000 for 3.2 gigs? Does it run at 70000rpms with a seek time of 0.00000000001 ms or something?
