Whats the best cdrw drive, based on speed, software package (I dont want to pay $75 for the adaptec software to burn my games and music), and price.
I was thinking Plextor 8x4x32 cdrw drive, but I dont see that is comes with any software if it does, please tell me what is comes with and if I can burn games and music with it.
My second choice is a Yamaha 8x4x32 (CRW8424E) it comes with Adaptecs EZ CD Creator which I can burn my games and music, and even make labels (I just bought a label maker a few days ago though) for my cd's.
Now both of these are around $150, I would like to stay around that price range.
Thanks guys.

i would go for the plextor, i'm pretty sure it comes with the adaptec software, but i'm not sure. plextor is pretty much the industry leader when it comes to cd drives

If you want a software package with your CD-burner you will have to buy a retail package. (cheap and with soft).
I would advize the plextor cd-writer or even a TEAC writer(those writers burn really everything incl playstation cd's) . I really hate the adaptec software and would prefer the latest version of NERO burning ROM
If software is a concern, I bought my yamaha at costco for $169 and it came w/: adaptec, musicmatch v5, soundforge, mixman, and several things I regarded as silly, and couldn't bring myself to install. Musicmatch wont recognize this burner, but there is a plugin available for download. Here's some info on it. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...%5Fcode=276329

I calculated the odds of this working versus the odds I was doing something really, really stupid, and...I went ahead anyway.
I got a HP8250i but the Plextor at work beats the hell out of it! decent software too!
