56k vs. Cable in Quake 3

When I get my cable modem saturday, will my shots fire faster. I mean when I fire my gun with my 56k modem over internet play it takes a second for the bullet to come out. Which is obviously annoying seeing as it's damn near imposible to aim (though I always come out on top for my ping group [around 400]) Anyway, will my shots shoot instantly with the cable or is it a server thing?

You'll need a faster server; 400 ms to the server is way too slow for cable. Also, have you done speed tweaks to your registry?

no, I don't have my cable modem yet. That;s the ping on my 56k currently. I'm just wondering if when I shoot the gun when I do get my cable, will the shots come out of the guns faster? you said 400ms. Is that milliseconds? So is it, with like 60 ping time it will only take 6.0 milliseconds for the gun to fire rather than 40.0 milliseconds or something like that?

If you get on a good fast server (<50ms), it's almost like playing the single player game, just as long as the server has enough bandwith for everybody. Generally I can get around 50 servers like that using Q3's internal browser.

I imagine that you will run a little smoother and your gun should fire just fine. But above all it depends on the speed of the server you are playing on as well as the other players. Because even if you have great ping but the server has terrible ping the entire game will run slow.
