Photo Printer Problem

I have a Epson Stylus 870 photo printer, it is installed via usb cable, I am running windows98. When I print a photo it prints out in reverse, ie black prints as white etc.
What have I done worng in my setup. Any help would be appreciated.

Try cleaning the contacts of the ink cartridge and the cartridge holder on the printer.
