Go SCSI ADAPTEC 3950U2 card + Plextor UltraPlex 40x. Cost more but scsi don't go to sleep after a few spins to wake up again... It's constancy.
HP7100 is crap!!! But I don't wanna give it up. I finally junked it and bought a YAMAHA 8424scsi. What a relief!

Thats true, the kenwood is the best without going to SCSI, but I would go with IDE if your going to play games. Also , a PROMISE IDE controller is a good investment.

Also in Device Manager, make sure that DMA is checked off for Your HDD and CDROM.

Get the Kenwood, it's the absolute best there is. If you don't mind the heavy price tag that is

btw, I believe you can get the Kenwood in either an IDE or a SCSI version, so that makes it even easier...the only thing left to do is choose; you can't go wrong
