Connecting (MAC) Laswerwriter II NT to PC

Just converted my parents to a pc but they have an old Apple Laserwriter II NT (not personal LW II, but the big one) I know it is possible to connect it through the serial port, but I can't seem to get it to work. I am sure someone knows! I need to know exactly what cable to use, which port to plug into, any adapters if needed, and if the dip switches need changing. Thanks for your help!

Contrary to popular belief, Apple Laserwriter II series printers can NOT be connected to a PC without some form of NetWare. The RS232 serial port on the back of these Laserwriters can not communicate with the PC's Com1(serial port Male DB25) and obviously not with the LPT1(Female DB25 parallel port). The emulation of the HP Laserjet IIP (known as HP PCL4) does not work as stated in the Apple LW II manuals. I have tried for years to connect several different LW IINTX's and more recently my newer LW IIf with absolutely no success. I've spent countless hours with 2nd Level Apple Tech's, HP printer technicians, several other PC representatives and two custom cable specialists and none of them can agree as to which port should be used and/or the configuration in Windows 98 and the cable pin assignments (DB25 Female to DB25 Male).

Actually I got it to work. I used a null modem cable and I think I had to set up the port to 9600 or something, and I had to set the 2 dipswitches correctly but my family has been using it for over 6 months now. It is really slow but it works well enough so that they have not bought a new one....
