Replacing Compaq desktop's built-in CD-ROM
I'm about to buy a Plextor 8/2/20 CD rewriter
and an Adaptec 2940UW controller for installation in my 18-month-old Compaq computer. This is making me wish I could copy one CD to another digitally without going through the hard drive process (for some reason I'm blanking out on that very common term you all use for this!). This wish is making me look wonder about the built-in CD-ROM/DVD drive that came with my computer.
Am I right in assuming that it can't do DAE?
Am I right in assuming it's an IDE drive, not SCSI? What if I bought a Plextor CD-ROM reader as well as the rewriter? Could I actually replace the built-in drive with the Plextor reader (remove the built-in one entirely), or would this present problems?
