HP 4100Cse scanner

When I tried to install the HP 4100Cse scanner on my PC clone, I got an error message telling me the USB was either not present or not "turned on" in the computer. Well, I know it's there because the scanner is plugged into it. A USB root is not listed in the device manager.
What can I do to activate it?

What operating system are you running win95 or 98?
You may have to go into your BIOS and enable the USB.

go to CMOS set-up and look for
Integrated Peripherals then enable
the USB support.

what's your system/motherboard/chipset???
