Geforce 4 MX cards - what are they comparable to?!
Hi there. I've tried to read up on reviews of the Geforce 4 MX cards, from the 420 to the 460 models. I read at one website that they are faster than a Geforce 3 in some games (yes, the MX versions, not the Ti versions.), and at another I read they were barely faster than a Geforce 2 MX 400. I'm just after a quick honest answer, due to facts, if that's possible. I am just curious, because I didn't get my Radeon 7500 long ago, and the Geforce 4 MX 440 is now the same price as a Radeon 7500, so I am just wondering if I should swap the cards?! Thanks!

An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.
I had the MX440 not too long ago. I used that to replace a GeForce2 MX DDV card that I had for a while. I hardly noticed any difference at all. The only thing that I really noticed was the Anti Aliasing. I could crank it up to 2 and 4 sample where before 2 sample would slow down the games to an almost unplayable state. With the 440 I could use 2 sample ok, just a little better than before, 4 sample slowed the games (depending on the game of course) down to about 10-15 frames per sec...it was horrible. Not much of an improvement at all. I ended up returning the card and used that as a down payment on a GeForce 4 Ti4600. Now I use that card with 4x Anti Aliasing on ALL my games and crank EVERYTHING up to the max in every game I have....NO slowdown at all. I'm running every game at least about 80+ fps with AA cranked all the way up and the full eye candy. That cards ROCKS! If you have the 7500 or a GeForce 2,3, etc...I would stay away from the MX series..
Of course thats only my opinion...hope that helps...good luck!

in overall perfromances it is between fastest GF2 series and GF3.
It means in some sercomastances it is faster then GF3 and in other it is slow as fastest GF2.
I would say it is good card, not as bad as many like to claim, but MX420 is plain junk so stay away from it.
440 and 460 are O.K., but that depends on what you expect, if you are satisfide with perfromances in between GF2Ultra and GF3, then MX4 would be good card for you.
The GeForce4 MX420 is about the same as a GeForce2 MX-400. The GeForce4 MX 440 is about the same as the GeForce2 GTS. The GeForce4 MX460 is about the same as the GeForce2Ti. Even the GeForce3 Ti200 is faster and cheaper and overclocks to well beyond anything the GeForce4 MXs can do. The GeForce3 Ti20o also has more features and capabilities. It is also about the same price otr cheaper than the GeForce4 MX440.
I would recommend the GeForce2 GTS-V long befor the GeForce4 MX anything. They run $48+$5S&H at NewEgg.com and overclock to near GeForce2 Ti speeds. the next card I would recommend is the GeForce3 Ti200. You can pick them up for as little as $120. In about the same price bracket is the Radeon 8500 for about $140. This is about the same speed as an overclcoked GeForce3 Ti200 and has a few nice extra features. They do overclcok but not as much. The last is the Geforce4 Ti4400. It is a bit pricy at $275, but is very fast. The GeForce4 Ti4200 is a much better deal, but has no release date yet. It might be set up to release closer to summer. It might also be held until ATI releases some other cards. It is supposed to retail at $200.

I'm with Todd on this one. From what i've read his statements pretty much sums it up.
I've built 4 PC's now with Visiontek GTS-V cards in them and have been very imressed with the performance and price! All have overclocked with out trouble to GTS speeds.
Hey what speeds are they clocked at. I thought it was at the old GeForce2 GTS speeds of 200/333. My cheap'O Inno3D ran that stock and runs 210/410 just fine. I only added some home made RAM sinks to it (only made it to 410/400 without them). I don't think they actually make DDR memory any more that can't do at least 400Mhz. They are up to 750Mhz now and most cards run over 500-600Mhz for memory.
