I just ordered a Super Grace Radeon 8500LE which is reportedly a full-spec ATI 8500 in disguise (wahoo!). Just couldn't let it pass for £160.
For a while I'll run a Windows ME partition (in addition to XP Pro) just for gaming. Might ditch it once the XP drivers are up to scratch. Naturally I had to order an IBM 60GXP to accomodate another OS... and they say students have no money!!!
MuFu.
P.S. I just posted this topic hoping that my enthusiasm will convince a few others to take the plunge.
You know, I've seen some damn long descriptions of where people live, and I was just wondering how freakin' long of a location they actually allow you to write in here. Looks like it's quite a bit. Oh well, if the space is here I'll use it!!! :)

actually MuFu, the last beta release from ATi boosted performance in win2k and XP, but not much at all in 9x/ME. I think now XP and ME are pretty close in performance for games. Of course, I still hate XP, so I'll stick with win2k for a while still.

IMO, Mr. Derek Smart is a hypocrite: Only someone who is either (a) lying (b) ashamed of their products (c) just plain ashamed, would hestitate to give out some simple and straight forward information. - Derek Smart, Ph.D.
You think so? I'm just going by how my Radeon 64MB VIVO performs at the moment. It's still noticeably slower under Windows XP than it was under ME. Even the latest drivers are buggy and a lot of games still have compatibility issues.
I'll check it out. I know the last driver release improved things dramatically but didn't really get the impression that XP and ME were quite on a par in everything. I love XP, but then again, I used ME before and that sucks a whole loada ***.
Thanks for the input guys,
MuFu.
P.S. I don't really have any money, BTW. I'm just "pushing the barrier" a little.

LOL. Well... I just got up (it's 4:15am) and cancelled the hard disk drive order. To be honest, the only reason I bought was to pimp out my mp3's and DivX's on the uni network (not to accomodate WinME of course, duh!).
Why the hell would I want to share my porn...errr...umm... files anyway? I'm a selfish bastard at the best of times.
Just shows that us stoodents are the world's official "lazy bastards"; yay !
Of course, there's no need for sharing. Let 'em get it themselves

Who said Students have no money?! They just spend the banks money and get themselves into more debt year after year!
