Riva TNT2 causing 98SE lockups?

My friend is using a K6-500, 432 megs of ram, windows 98SE. he has a 3D blaster Riva TNT2 16 meg card. Whenever he tries to run a flash movie, or anything with windows media, real player, quicktime, etc.. it gets BSOD. Shockwave files play fine, so does winamp visualizations in full screen mode.. most games such as halflife freeze before they are even finished loading. He has the most recent drivers, direct x, and win media player already.. this is a fresh install and it just started doing it too... Otherwise the computer works fine, any suggestions?

with some vieo cards the latest and greatest drivers for directX are actually the problem. Try it on directX 7 rather than 8 or 8.1. A way to check if it is a driver problem would be to reinstall the graphics card as a plain vga card and then re-install it and then install DX7 - see if that works

I suppose the other thing is is there enough hard drive space for playing the game - some games demand up to 500MB free space after install to work the game properly.
