The only difference betwween the "Gainward Gold Powerpack" and the cheapest GeForce3 is the DVI conector.

ALL Geforce3`s use exactly the same memory suplied by nVidia and all perform the same.
They also all overclock about the same given proper cooling.

If a DVI conector and/or useless, bundled software is not useful/important to you, get the cheapest Geforce3 you can find!

I'm not so sure that's true. I remember when the GF3's first came out, that some were using 4ns ram (as opposed to the default 3.8ns) and some had 3.5ns ram.

That was only some prototypes: pre production stepping.

nVidia sells card vendors a GeForce3 "package" that includes a GPU and memory chips. This insures all geForce3`s have identical memory, a verry wise marketing stratagy.

The Golden Sample cards, however, are tested to make sure the OC better. Also, the Gainward Geforce3's have much better IQ (image quality) according to my personal views of the card and those of the Anandtech head-to-head Geforce3 roundup.
