I will be ordering a Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook within the next week, and I'm trying my best to try to keep the cost low. My main question is which video card I should get with my laptop. The standard video card is a 16MB DDR 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce2 Go Vid. The optional upgrade, which costs $130, is for a 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2. Do you think it is worth the $130 to get the upgraded video card? Will I notice any difference? I will be using the laptop primarily for the internet, but I will also be doing a lot of word processing and watch some DVD's on it. Please tell me if I need the upgraded video card.
My other question is regarding the display screen. What is the difference between a 15'' SuperXGA and a 15'' UltraXGA. The Ultra XGA is $150 more. Is there a big noticeable difference between these 2 displays? Do you think its worth the money to upgrade?
If all you are going to do is go on the internet, word process and watch some DVDs then get the cheaper graphics card, you will not see any benifit with going for the more advanced graphics card. Save your money.
it would help with gaming, and it might help a bit when you got alot of stuff running because of the extra ram. but dvd's will look the same and the internet might be a little faster but nothing you would notice really notice unless you are gonna play games.
The UltrXGA likely supports a higher resolution. The GeForce2 GO is based around the same core as the GeForce2 MX and GTS and likely supports resolutions up to something insane like over 2000x1500 and the SuperXGA likely supports either 1024x768 or maybe 1280x1024. The Ultra might handle up to 1600x1200, but on a 15" screen might be a bit difficult to read text.
