What card should I have if I want to do video editing?

Hey everyone...I will soon be getting a
mini-dv video camera and i will probably want to edit the footage that i record and maybe add some 3d effects and stuff. Has anyone gotten into this? How much does the video card matter in the creation of video? What upgrade will make the biggest difference? Thanks guys!!!

You might search the web for PCI FireWire capture cards, there are many, but you will surely find reviews and have opinions from people here.

The only FireWire editing card I personnaly used is the Matrox RT2000, works pretty damn well with DV format and has some ***-kicking 3D transitions. However, it may not be what you want since:

-It costs 999$ US
-I doesn't work on 66MHz FSBs
(most Celerons and PIIs at 333Mhz and less)
-You need to use specific components in your
comp to have it compatible with the RT2000
-It comes and works only with a modified
G400, so bye-bye hardcore gaming.

It is more a professional card, but it may be worthy if you really dig DV video editing.
The RT2500 is less costly and would work with your current videocard, but it's still pretty expensive (799$)

Sorry if I can't help you much about FireWire cards, since that's the only one I had experience with

BTW for high quality DV editing I reccomend at least 256MB, and most importantly, a good hard drive with at least 20GB, 7200 RPM, on SCSI if possible, and dedicated to video would help. A big and powerful HDD is crucial for good capture and storing large movies, especially on high quality. The vidcard would be OK if it has a good video playback quality, and TV-Out may help a lot.

ATI has $50 Firewire card with video editing software (Ulead's VideoStudio 5.0).

TechTV did a review.

For what it's worth, I plan on getting this card when I get around to getting a battery charger for my camera.
