Radeon beauty in XF4.1

I finally got off my but and downloaded the Manrake 8.0 Freq 2 last night and installed it. It is working beautifully, after the changes to XF config file, and rm/insmodding.

I still can't get it to work for me.. accelerated that is. I went to edit XF86Config-4 to add dri and glx modules, but they were already there. Fine. I went and did insmod agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1 and insmod radeon, startx but it is still all messed up. The only way it works is with Option "noaccel" "true" but it is really gimpy even in 2d

It said "requires Windows 95 or better," so I installed Linux.

Makes sure that in the device section, you change the driver ro radeon. It's prolly generic vga or ati right now. Then try again. I didn't have to use the try_unsupported BTW. All I did was:

rmmod Radeon
insmod agpgart
insmod Radeon
after the config changes
Restart X, and viola!
Make sure you add agpgart and Radeon to your /etc/modules too, so you won't have to do it each time you boot. Also, did you add the section that will let any user use DRI? On some machines, only root can access DRI till you add it to the config file.

OH, yeah. You do know about lsmod, and glxinfo don't you? lsmod will tell youthe loaded modules and if they're not being used. glxinfo will let you know about DRI, if it's loaded and some of the registers for your card.

I am fairly certain that it has "driver radeon" but when I go to rmmod radeon, it says it isn't loaded.

I can only boot into X with "noaccell true" so no point in checking glxinfo, right? When I do lsmod in the command line before I start x, I get so much stuff that it fills a screen and then some, so I can't see what was at the beginning. I tried more lsmod but that didn't work. I don't think radeon is listed.

In the config, it came default with load glx and dri, and the chmod to 0666.

try an lsmod> modinfo.txt
Then look at the file it outputs. I really don't think you should have that many laoded. Unload all the ones that say unused, then try insmod agpgart. Does it load? If it does now, it'll say it's unused. Then try insmod radeon(use the try_unsupported if you have mobo with a VIA chipset). It'll also say it's unused until you startx if you do an lsmod. Now cross your fingers, pray to tux, and startx.
