Finally Asus come through.... it's only taken 6 months!!

Not sure why they sent the green fan, but the silver one is what I want. (for the connector.)

This is the e-mail I've been sending them daily, (to various depts), on and off for over six months.

    Asus AGP v7700 (D) Rev 1.00 (Geforce 2 GTS 32mb DDR)

Please read this e-mail fully before sending any reply or disregarding it.

I am contacting you again because I still cannot get this simple issue dealt
    with by Asus

I have now been trying to get a new fan for the Graphics card in the title,
for almost six months now. I have sent e-mails to every Asus dept. I have
posted on Asus forums & newsgroups. I have contacted the "European" support
by phone but, no one ever speaks English, and I don't speak German. I
eventually got this useless reply from an Asus dept after sending e-mails
    continually...........

    Dear Sir,

Please contact your dealer to help you.

    Best Regards,

............ even though I had stated that my "dealer" was an online
store that It will not be able to help me with this issue. All I require is
a new fan, I will even pay for it if I have to so that I don't have to send
the card back and be without a useable PC for a month. Why is this such a
difficult thing to get sorted out?

Please reply with somewhere I can get a fan from that speaks English or is
UK based, or send one to the below address, but do not refer me to my dealer
as it will not help at all.

    Regards J.Spencer

    Tech support at its best!

Now if only I had a crystal ball, to see if I'm gonna need anything 6 months from now

[angry mode] I love the cards but the support would suck if there was any!!! If they want to sell the products in the UK they need either a UK based support or an english support form on the German, ("European"), web site. I had to use AltaVista translations to be able to understand it

Why not have a replcement fan purchase system? You could send the card back, (and wait a month), if you want it replaced free of charge or pay 5 or 10 if you want a fan sent out? It's not rocket science. [/angry mode]

There are times when I wish I was fluent in 'European'

If only more European sites would support all the languages that are covered by Europe.

Like when you spot something you want to buy from a European site, that does European shipping, but you need to be fluent in whatever language just to make sure your order is OK, and is going get shipped smoothly.

So far I have not needed to use any tech support.
I'm not looking forward to the day that happens though.

BTW: Which country did the fans come from?

They came from the "European" site (Germany). Just arrived this morning, no complement slip or return e-mail

Damn annoying they also supplied the "standard" Green GF3 heatsink/fan, (2pin plug type as fitted to visontek cards). If they had supplied two of the Asus heatsink/fans, (with tiny 3pin plug), I'd have sent you one

If you fill in the support form on the European site now, (but word it differently to me), you might get one for a GF3 sometime in the future? if you do go the waterblock route? Even if you don't it may be handy to get a spare one now.

    you may need this:-

Hey, maybe you can just solder the connector from the old fan to the new one...

Yeah that's simple if I just wanted to change the fan but there is always more to it than that with me . I'm water-cooling the GPU and ram on the GF3, (was going to be the earlier GTS but I never got around to it). In unplugging the fan from the card the very useful Smart Doctor app, (that monitors fan rpm, temps, and voltages on the card) becomes unusable as it wont stay minimised.

I've now made a pulse generator , (with the help of people on this BBS ), that imitates the fan rpm, but I needed an extra plug for it as Asus use a tiny three pin I've never seen before. I did try to find the fan/plug type on the net but couldn't.

So maybe I didn't need a new fan, (although I had to oil the GTS fan once), My point is that I'd willingly pay for one but where do I go to get one? That is what has taken six months to resolve, unaccetable considering the Smart Doctor app says this if the fan stops working.

All I wanted Asus to do is tell me how??

    Bladerunner,

with all your tweaking, maybe you should consider getting a job as an engineer with a formula 1 team.
