Maybe I'm not following you here, but Serious Sam does not use the Quake 3 engine...

It uses the Serious engine.
Why'd you think it used the Quake 3 engine?

Serious engine is open source too. (as far as i know).

No, it is not open source (as far as I know.) However, they have an SDK for mod delevopers to use.
