Help with IRQ setting pls

My vid card is set to IRQ 11, which it shares with a couple of other things. When I go to device manager and try to change it I am told that it is not allowed. Irq 9 is empty right now. How do I change it over?

I've had fun before trying to move my IRQ's so heres what I have done to shift them.

Go into BIOS and disable devices that are not needed, com ports, printer ports etc.
That frees up extra irq's.

Try moving some of your pci cards around, if you have the room.

Updating the bios has also changed irq settings for me before.

If you feel you have a good grasp of things you could go into bios and change the irq settings in there. If your unsure have a look in the mobo manual.

BTW: You vid card should not share its irq with another device, esp if its a geforce card.

What are the Comm Ports for anyway? I dont think I am using them... but am not sure.

The two little sockets on the back of your pc next to the printer port. They look like a reverse of the joystick port, that you find on a sound card.

You can plug all sorts of devices into them, but USB has taken over now so they are getting more and more redundant.
So, if ya dont use them, disable them!

You can change IRQs through BIOS too; I wouldn't recommend it, though, unless you're having conflicts. Cards will often work fine together- I think I average 2 to 3 devices per hardware IRQ on my computer, for instance

You can go into device manager, and disable com ports and other devices you don't use. Like, if you've got a USB mouse, you can disable the PS/2 mouse and get IRQ 12 back
