Hi guys, as you may have guest, I HATE DIRECTX !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I got that off my chest, I can type more calmly...

Alright, I'm having tons of problems because of it. I can't play a single direct3d game because it installed wrong on my computer. Ok, here's the problem as dxdiag describes it :
(G400 32 meg Dualhead)

See the problem?
I tried reinstalling it a number of times, but no change, then I tried using DirectX buster to remove it : no change. Then I tried removing it manualy : no change.

You guys have any ideas on what I'm supposed to do here?

(I'm affraid I now the answer (format) but I'm not sure I like it )

Also, after using "ZeroFill" is there anything special to do (Aside from repartitionning) or do you follow the same steps as a regular format?)

You didn't say which ver of DirectX you were (trying) to use.

I would suggest removing it completely, install an old copy (of an old game perhaps, Dx6 or something), upgrade it to 7a, the again to Dx8 (if you want Dx8 that is...)

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers installed first then install DX# over the top.

P.S: Try installing the same ver from different source / download again. the version you are trying to install maybe corrupt in some strange manner. This is the edit, BTW.

I do not like people that simply because something is not working properly says that a product is stupid and that they hates it.

Did you know that without DirectX your games will also not work?

I my experience the best thing to do if you have serious DirectX troubles is to fdisk and format. Drastic yes. Works yes. Good luck.

why format though? rename the windows and program files directories and reinstall windows, takes half hour, you dont lose any data, and you can install DX187 if you find it...

Thanks for the trick, except there's one problem. How do I rename the Windows directory. Right clicking and doing rename doesn't work so how am I supposed to do it?

well if u dont get a answer how to rename the windows and program file directories,sorry i dont know how to do it, best shot is format, yes u lose what u have but, it will fix the problem i have no problem with clearing my drive if something is playing up, and i cant resove it, and u need direct x, if u want games to work if u play them, ive used direct x8, but gone back to 7.

Alright, I've formated, BUT I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM !!! Excepet, this time, my registry is normal...

In FF7, if I'm using my G400, the game will freeze and my mouse cursor will appear. At this point I can press Alt + F4 to "quit" the game. With my voodoo2, it freezes too, but this time, I have to reset the computer.

Here are my sys specs. It might help you guys.

are you using the latest video drivers?

also, the voodoo2's are known to be used in pairs. could this be a problem? try removing this and just use the matrox card.

Actualy, I bought my Voodoo a while back because I was having the same problem for FF8 with my G400. It worked for a while but then i started having the same problems again so I don't think it's the voodoo.

hi, I figured the DOS part out, but I just don't know what command to use... That's the problem...

Anyways, I'm gonna format again. This time, I'm trying with DX7.0a My drive is partitionned so all of my important stuff is on my D drive so I don't loose that much.

And again, does anyone know about Zerofill out there. It's an application for Quantum drives and it fills it with zeros. I want to know if this is any better than format. I know I loose everythinng including partitions.

the command is REN <oldname> <newname>
But don't do it in DOS shell in window$. You must boot clean without window$

Hi guys. Me again...
Ok seems that whatever I do, the problems persist. If using my G400, I get a BSOD in FF7 or it simply freezes with the Voodoo2. I really need help.

I considering using zerofill but I'm wondering if it'll help at all...

I believe its your g400,you need something different,I read alot of problems with g400 and FF7,is there a patch you can get for the game??Can you go to the Matrox FAQ page??Can you try using older drivers,I wouldnt use DX8 at this point you are only COMPOUNDING the problem and making it worse.

Here: http://www.tweakfiles.com/misc/directxuninstaller.html is a DX8 un-installer,so you can put dx7 back in,i guess too late .


If you really love this game consider getting a new video card when all options are exausted,Im assuming its a GLIDE game???Voodoo 5 5500 or 4500,or maybe a voodoo3??

what is the full name of it?? FF7 stands for ?????
