PCI 8MB video card problem

I have a 3-4 year old machine with win95b on it. I bought an 8MB PCI video card for it. It is made by KASER it's the SIS6326. When I put it in a booted up the monitor remained blank. The monitor didn't say it wasn't receiving signals but it didn't project anything. Is there a chance my computer is too old for that video card or should my computer be able to use any PCI device?

It would depend on the motherboard standard, apparently some of the older motherboards use the PCI 2.0 standard where as the PCI video cards may use the 2.1 PCI standard.
I read somewhere that if the above situation occurs, you will not get any signal to the monitor, blank screen.

That is probrably the problem then. Is there any way to make this video card work or do you think I should return it?

Ok knowing that my Motherboard probrably supports PCI 2.0 and the card is probrably PCI 2.1 is there anything I can do to make it work with my motherboard or is it just plain incompatible. If it is I'll just return the card. Someone?

Aren’t they backward compatible? .I thought that PCI 2.1 is compatible with PCI 2.0. I’m not sure. Did you have an onboard video earlier? .If so there could be a jumper to disable it in the motherboard or there could be an option in the bios. If you didn’t disable the onboard video ,it will be the default video card. Let us know some more details.

No I didn't have onboard video. I did have a 1MB PCI vid card in there and it still works because I tried it after I took out the new one and it works fine.

Make sure that your video card works by connecting it to some other PC. I had a SIS6326 PCI card with my P133MHz, & it worked great . Now I have given it to a friend of mine who just assembled a PIII 800MHz & waiting for his GeForce2 & it works fine in that PC too. So I think your card should work with your PC, Are you getting any beep sounds? As I remember is no video card is connected or if there is an error it gives beep code. By the way what is your processor?

It is a socket 5 it's an AMD k6-2 333mhz. When I put the card and boot it up the monitor remains blank. I don't get any beeping at all but the hard drive sounds like it's booting up and the floppy light comes on but no beep. My 1MB PCI card works perfectly still exept when I put it back in right after I take 8MB one out it boots into windows and says The adapter type is incorrect it won't work with your hardware. I push ok and it doesn't come up again.

I have no idea about why your Video card doesn’t work. Have you tried changing the PCI slot?. Just disconnect all the other peripheral cards & try to boot with only the video card. Make sure that the card really works by connecting it to another PC. Perhaps you’ve got a bad card. You can try some thing like this , connect both the cards 1mb & 8mb , boot using the 1mb (connect the monitor cable to 1mb). See whether windows detect the other card. There is a very little chance of success in that method but why not give it a try?
