    IS anyone successfully running an AGP card under Win95 ??

    I was going to give it a try with OSR2.1. I've heard that Win95 OSR2.1 or later will support AGP drivers.

    Is anyone else doing this successfully?

    Red, It's because I've been using fairly old hardware and 95 (OSR2) runs faster for what I do.

    Anyway, lets not get off on a tangent , I'd really just like to know if anyone is successfully using AGP with 95 (OSR2.1 or OSR2.5)

    I'm using Win95 OSR2 on a KX133 Mobo with a CL GTS. No problems.

    Well,
    I haven't a clue where everyone got the idea that AGP doesn't work with Win '95 from, but I've never had any trouble running Win '95 (versions b, c, and OSR 2.0, 2.1 and 2.5) with any AGP card (except the Diamond Stealth III, but thats just a rubbish card).
    And the reason I still use Windows '95 is that it is faster than Win '98, and can do pretty much anything Win '98 can (except support USB devices, but that has never bothered me) and can do it faster, and with less RAM, HDD space, etc. Apart from NT4, Win '95 OSR 2.0 is currently the most stable and bug free OS from MS (well lets face it, it only took them 5 years to get it right).
    Just my thoughts.

    Cool Fallguy, You like Win95 OSR2 for all the same reasons as me. OSR2.

    About the OSR2.1 and AGP thing, when I tried to install my motherboard supplied AGP drivers it refused to install, insisting that I needed OSR2.1 or higher to support it. Funny thing, I borrowed a cheap AGP card from a friend and it work fine just the same (with only the video card supplied drivers). But I really didn't know if it was working to full capacity or if it was just running like a defacto PCI card.

    BTW. Upgrading to OSR2.1 is no biggy, you just install the USB patch, that's all (ie OSR2.1 is simply OSR2 + USB patch. OSR2.5 is just OSR2.1 + IE4).

    PS. How do you know if an AGP video card is "really" working properly?

    fallguy,
    Actually, in the FIC VA 503+, it is stated that to install the VIA AGP drivers, you must have at least Win95 OSR2.x, because you have to install USB drivers first (?!?).
    I am not saying they are right (or that this mobo is the best choice for running an AGP video), that well, that's maybe a clue...

    I don't give a damn anyway, my V3 2000 PCI is fine enough for now...

    95b is what we had to run to get AGP support. Consequently it also gave us USB support.

    I had my TNT2 Ultra running on my PII300 on Windows 95 until I built my Athy 700.

    Which ones?. I couldn't notice any difference in Wintune98 (2D, opengl, directx) scores with or without the motherboard AGP drivers (and USB patchs) loaded. It could just be that the cheap graphic card was the limiting factor and not the interface (be it AGP or PCI). It's a bit like this with a lot of ATA66 hard drives you know.

    Blackdak, The term "Win95B" is a little ambiguous because it actually refers to both OSR2.0 and OSR2.1.

    Standard Win95 + service release 1 = Win95A

    OSR2.0 = Win95B

    OSR2.1 = Win95B

    OSR2.5 = Win95C

    Confusing isn't it. Both OSR2.0 and OSR2.1 report themselves as Win95B. The only way to be sure that it really is OSR2.1 is to check "add remove programs" for the presence of the USB patch.

    I had that running well before with no problems(common business apps and games such as Quake2). This was with Win95 OSR2.1 and an Asus AGP Banshee card. I was using Wintune98 then and my scores were similar with Win98FE.

    I had win95 running with an old Diamond Viper 550 a few years ago and it worked perfectly with no problems at all.
