S3ViRGE DOS display problems

I have an old S3 Virge which has noproblem under windows and directx. However, games such as Wing Commander and Pinball Timeshock will fail to initiate SVGA mode. On the other hand, Harpoon II for DOS will work quite okay up to 1280*1024...help

I had a Virge a while ago, and I found (pure luck) a DOS VESA driver (upgrade to 2.1).
Dunno where you can get it, nor how it is called but it exists.
That's worth searching...

But why does it work with "simpler" stuff like Harpoon II and Pirates (from 640*480*256 to 1280*1024*256)...?

because it supports the VESA standard. use any old VESA driver, don't try to tell the games you have a special card. try generic stuff.
