Hmm... If you've run in what I'm thinking about, regarding CS and a V5, methinks you could have saved yourself a lot of frustration by simply downloading the WickedGL drivers. Oh well...
Well, if you can afford the 64 MB one, I'd say go with the Radeon. It's not the extra memory, it's that the 64 MB one runs at a higher clock frequency, and has faster memory. As in: about 10% faster.
If you go with the GTS, IMHO I would stay clear of Hercules or Suma. Hercules screwed up big time with those poorly applied heatsinks, and with the memory overclocked by default, without any testing that it actually works that high. And just reading about Suma's running 5.5ns memory at 200 MHz kind of makes me cringe. That kind of gamble should be left to the hardcore user, not inflicted upon potentially clueless people.
Dunno, personally I'd get an Asus, if I were to buy a GTS. (Which I'm not, since my mobo is one of the many models that are incompatible with the GTS.)

what you don't like from the v5 5500? only curious
n' yes $300 it's too high priced
i would choose the Radeon for all the new features that support n' it's the best in 2d n' 3d image quality + dvd, mpeg encoder, dx8.0 ready n' all
the speed is compared to a GF2, isn't a huge difference that i would choose the GF2 'cause is faster..
Tough choice for sure considering their feature set and speeds are so close. I just had friends buy them (one bought the ATI, other the GF2).
The ATI has a bit more future promise, but it may not actually pan out. The drivers probably have some more optimizing to go, but ATI might never get it done. And since DX8 isn't out, the features could possibly change or be implemented in a different way. The ATI does have slightly better anisotropic filtering (both can force anisotropic) and doesn't have the messed up texture compression issues.
The GF2 is probably a bit more of a "sure thing." It doesn't have as many odd issues, like 16bit artifacts or horrid Win2k performance (well, except texture compression). I believe the 32meg GF2 is now slightly faster than the 64meg Radeon with the new D3 drivers. That makes the GF2 the more obvious choice if you want the most peformance for the least buck.
Tough choice. If you choose the GF2, I'd grab the Leadtek (retail w/TV) for the cheap end or the Elsa or Asus if you want fancy. If you're going for the Radeon, I think the 64meg card is a better choice. The 32meg Radeon loses a fair ammount of performance. Plus the VIVO and Rage Theatre on the 64meg card are neat features.
BP6, P3-700@770 (for now), 320mb, eVGA MX Plus (dual CRT), waiting for VIVO module
Surely the GTS Ultra cannot be too far off release.
And it certainly lessons a standard GTS in benchmarks I've seen.
Dunno how much its gonna be though.
After having a geforce256 ddr I bought a v5500 but it went back after 1 week (I was not convinced!) swapped it for a CreativeGTS card.Fast, stable and I didnt pay for any unwanted extras
I like the Hercules (Guilimont) 3D Prophet. It has been stable (for me) & the one I bought did not have the memory o/c'd from specs.
I would go GTS (who's a thought??) for speed in gaming. If you do video editing, play DVD's on your computer or plan on using TV out, then the Radeon is a beter choice.
As for GeForce Ultra - I just checked Pricewatch. They'll being offered on a preorder basis at $500.00.

Well I went and did it!! I bought the Creative geforce II GTS..First I tried formatting and putting it on my celeron fcpga 533 @ 800. then installed updated drivers...It screwed it all up.. whats up with those det. 3 drivers..So I formatted again and took the card out and put it in my athlon 700 ..This time only running the old drivers on cd..YEEEE HAAAAA runs like a champ..But Im still having problems running the T&L demo..Oh well every thing esle runs great !!!!!!! Thanks Guys for the advice ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I had a Geforce and then upgraded to an ATI Radeon 64 DDR. But this card is only and OEM card. The games I played on my GeForce was Unreal Tournament using 1024*768 32bit and it ran very smoothly, where as going with ATI I get 40 FPS and up. I recall GeForce is much faster...
3DMark2000 scores for the GeForce is also faster than my ATI card.
BTW, I just wanted to know if I compare GeForce to ATI is that like comparing apples to oranges? Are they even the same things or should it be GeForce2 with ATI. I have no ideal where this card stands? GeForce2 Mx?
