I've just got my hands on the new detonator 6.16 drivers (leaked). They get 5 more fps in q3. I've been usin' the 5.32 'till now. Nice open-gl antialiasing options too. Get them now here: http://zoiah.m3dzone.com/
Yep I downloaded the 6.11's yesterday too, and blimey d3d has got quite a bit quicker.
And its nice to see we have access to the extra fsaa settings in opengl without having to hack the registry.
I wonder how much more is to come.
i got the 6.11 and didnt like them,,,,,,,they made my cursor flicker to the point it was nothing but an eyesore..these drivers did slightly less in score in 3dmark2000,but still scored more then the others i have tried(but the 5.16)today i tried the 6.16.same thing........id rather have a smoother feel with everything,,,,then have my cursor flicker when ever its placed over an icon,or even playing games
Now, I have to report that Deus Ex runs choppier with the Det. 6.16 on my system. Adding to the slower overall performance there are many short lags of ca. 0.5 sec when I run and look around.
Yes, I have the D3D patch.
I play at 960x720x32 all details using an Elsa Gladiac 32.
I didn't try OpenGL games, cause D3D performance is my first concern right now because of Deus Ex.
Gasman
you sound like you had a noticeable performance increase in Deus Ex using the 6.16. Can you please tell us more, like what your configuration was before? Thanks!
My own personal preference is to play games in either 800x600x32 or 1024x768x32.
In the case of deus ex, with det 5.22 I was running with everything on/up apart from world texture detail (medium) at 1024x768x32
Now when I use det 6.11 with this setup I saw that things got quite a bit smoother, so I now run in 800x600x32 with texture detail on high.
Dropping down a res to go up on texture detail is well worth it.
I found a busy area in deus ex (above the laboratory looking down through the glass at the dead alien) and did a comparison.
I'll try Q3 later to see how it runs.
I had tried all the other 5.** drivers but none of them gave as good all round performance as 5.22 (although 5.22 is not the quickest at benchmarks)
I've downloaded 6.16 but have'nt tried them yet.
I dont have 3dmark2000 on my system anymore as I've got fed up of how biased it is, and how drivers can be taylored to give a higher score. A few hundred marks here or there dont mean didly, its how my games run that I'm bothered about.Though it does make for a good screensaver on continuos loop
You mention that things got choppier with 6.16, well thats what I had with 5.32, even though they were supposed to give higher frames and improved fsaa.
I could'nt stand running around in Q3 with these little pauses just for a few extra fps.
I also run with the beta d3d.dll in deus ex.
If you pop along to madonion there is an article on how to tweak deus ex for a geforce, you know like the 'preferences' option in UT.Tells you which advanced options to tweak.
If I find the link I'll post it.
Thanks a lot, Gasman!
I already had done some Deus Ex tweaking but found aome new aspects at madionion.
I also will give the Det. 611 a try and maybe post results here.
See you
OK guys, here's my verdict:
The 6.11 run fine with Deus Ex, no lags!
There also seems to be a performance gain in D3D. I now can also use 32 bit texures in 960x720x32color on a 17'' monitor. (BTW the 960x720 resolution looks pretty good on 17'' monitors and saves some fillrate compared to 1024x768!)
The 6.11 according to all reviews and benchmarks also provide a remarkable performance boost in OpenGL (Q3A)!
No probs so far.
Where's the champagne, Blade? BTW that car looks great!
