If you had a voodoo 3 and now own a voodoo 5, do you see a great difference to justify the purchase? I've read all the tests and know the specs, opinions appreciated.
I had a VooDoo3 3000 and got a VooDoo5 5500. I did see a signifigant difference and am really happy with my purchase. There are a few games which don't seem to improve but most of my software has recieved the benefit of 2xFSAA and still run faster than they did with my V3. FSAA makes ALL the difference! Objects seem more real and the pixel popping is virtually gone! AAAaahhhh... :-)

Actually the GeForce2 GTS uses much less power. The Dual chips setup at .25 micron really sucks the power. The GeForce256 used much more power. Hell the GeForce2 MX is going to hit the laptop market VERY soon.
If I recall right the GeForce2 GTS uses about 10watts, the GeForce256 used about 20-25, the GeForce MX probably only uses about 5 watts, the Voodoo5 5500 uses about 30watts and the 6000 use 60 watts and uses its own power supply. The Voodoo3 2000, 3000, and 3500 probably used about 10, 15, and 20 watts.
The GF2 MX doesn't even use a fan. On top of that, they restrict the memory so much, you could probably drop the core down to 120Mhz (instead of the 175Mhz) and remove the heatsink too (and probably only use about 3 wats).

The VooDoo5 5500 does pull power off of a 4 pin connector (Same as for a HDD or CD). VooDoo did this to ensure there were no power issues through the AGP port due to poor motherboard design.

Yeah, you people want to talk about power consumption? How about the craze of 1998: Voodoo 2 SLI. Thats 2 PixelFX2 and 4 TexelFX2 chips at .35 micron...whew, thats one power monger. But most people didnt have a problem with it.
Hey Todd, where did you find power consumption data for chipets, Ive been looking all over for this info?
Most of the information on the Voodoo4 4500, Voodoo5 5500, and Voodoo5 6000 were from all the "preveiws" of them. The GeForce2 numbers are from when it was lanched. The GeForce2 MX and GeForce256 are educated guesses, they said the GeForce2 GTS used much less power than the GeForce256 though. The GeForce2 MX should use much less than with the lower speed and simpler chip, plus they mentioned laptop versions soon. The Voodoo3 was a pure guess, but the Voodoo3 3500 should pull quite a bit, since some motherboards did have trouble supplying enough power to it (and the TNT2 Ultra).
So it is some real information, some based on other similar cards, and some educated guesses. Most should be pretty close.

I have a vk 3000 - and may be thinking about an upgrade, but would my processor (p2 400) justify that card? or would I need a faster processor to do the voodoo 5000.5500 etc any justice? (I only have PCI BTE - so a geoforce is out of the question - unless they do a pci - but to my knowledge they don't.
Do not get a card liek the V5 if you have a crappy prossesor. Take it from experience, I had to build a whole new comp just so that I could justify the V5's pure quality and speed. Went from p3 450 to p3700
