Hello everyone,
I just upgraded my kid's system to an AMD K6-2 500 Mhz processor(I got it very cheap from my friend) and I upgraded the hard drive to 13 GB. I was wondering what video card I should get to see good performance in games. I really do not want to spend the extra money to purchase a new video card so I'm fine buying a used one. Thanks for any information!!
There are a lot of choices; nvidia's TNT & TNT2 cards should really be cheap now, along with 3dfx's V3 line (except the 3500). I guess we'll need a little more information about what kind of games/apps you are going to be running on that machine.
ASUS Rampage III Formula Intel X58, Intel Core i7-930 @ 3.6, Patriot Viper II Sector 7 Edition 12GB, Galaxy Geforce GTX 680 SLI, LITE-ON Internal Blu-ray Burner 12X, Dell UltraSharp U2711 IPS-Panel Black 27" 6ms, Corsair Hydro Series H100, ENERMAX SGALAXY EVO EGX1250EWT, Corsair Obsidian 800D, Windows 7 x64
Hey Huge,
Thanks for the reply. I was more concerned with games like Flight Simulator and strategy games such as Age Of Empires II and Civ II and Fallout 2, Halflife, Team Fortress Classic and Diablo II. Anyone have any suggestions?
Well, I know that Halflife/TFC runs particularly well on the TNT/TNT2. Voodoo3 should do a good job too.
Flight Sim will runn well on almost any modern card.
Diablo II was supposed to have a few Glide-only 3d effects, but Ive heard nothing on this issue as of recently.
Age of Empires II (so I have heard), does not run very fast on any K6-2 system, regardless of the video card.
Civ II and Fallout 2 are both 2-d only games.
I would say your kids would be happly with either a TNT2 or a Voodoo3, but because the TNT2 cards are fully-AGP compliant, they can have problems playing nice with Super Socket 7 boards. I reccomend the Voodoo3.
