slow unreal start-up screen

My friend just got unreal tournament and its start up screen takes like 10 minutes to load - literally. His system is a celeron 500 with 64mb of ram, direct x 7.0 and a geforce sdr w/ 32mb and the detonator 5.30 drivers. Should the screen take that long to load? BTW, he has the 4.20 beta patch. Thanks.

If your disk is constantly thrashing, could be an indication of lack of RAM. Try another stick from another PC, see if that helps.

also, you can go into the unrealtournament.ini and edit a line:
LocalMap=CityIntro.unr

change to
LocalMap=Ut-Logo.unr

It will help a little by avoiding that big *** animation, which looks cool, but gets tiresome after the 500th time

Is it definitely in D3D mode? I would perhaps try some benchmarking software to see if it goes slow in the Windows environment also, in which case you should look for a problem with the BIOS settings, hardware damage etc.

I think it is just win98...

try to run the game under win2000 and u will notice that the long waiting is over

have the same problem, that's why i play it under win2000

It should only take 10-15 seconds before starting animation.
