TNT2U and nvidia 5.22 ref drivers

Grr...I got a new problem; I think it's opengl related. I reinstalled both q3 and hl last night (after a disk crash i had the other night), now when I go to change the resolution lets say from 640x480 to 800x600, it doesn't do it right. It sort of zooms in instead of changing the resolution. So at the q3 menu, it says QUAKE 3 ARE...and the rest gets cut off. I can't switch it back either because the apply button is off screen. It did it in Half-Life as well, but I could successfully up it to 1024x768. Anybody know the console commands for changing resolution; in the old days it was -width and -height.

Using 5.22 ref drivers and a CLTNT2U running on a fresh copy of win98se.
