Ever hear of a Roentgen monitor?

I just found this article the other day. Apparently IBM has been doing some research into high-definition monitors and it seems like they're ready to manufacture a new line of monitors (possible late this year).

    http://www.research.ibm.com/roentgen/

Has anybody heard of these monitors? Possible manufacturing time-fram? tentative prices?

Sounds like a dangerous monitor. What will be their next line ? X-ray monitors, Extreme gamma burst monitor

Seriously - I haven't heard about this monitor.

Actually IBMs Roentgen monitor IS named after the guy that discovered radiation. I tried searching http://google.com for "Roentgen monitor" but most of the links were for radiation counters. doh!

Maybe I'd better start saving up now. They sound expensive, not to mention the fact that they will definitely need special graphics cards to output 2560x2048 resolution.

Then again (if you follow the related links) 1 of the articles says that the graphics cards are made of 4 SXGA chips. At tens of dollars per SXGA chip, it doesn't sound too bad.

Sounds like fun, but the question remains: when and how much...

You know you're a computer geek when you start dreaming about Roentgen monitors.
