How do I get the heat sink off???

I have a Viper V550 and I put a fan on it to keep everything cool but now it takes up a lot of room. I want to take the heat sink off and put a little smaller one on, but the current heat sink is attached with some kind of adheasive (sorry about the spelling) or tape. I tried lightly twisting and pulling, but I'm worried I'll damage something. What is the best way to get the heat sink off? Anyone have any ideas?

Wedge a razor blade between the chip and heatsink and tap it lightly with the blunt end of a screwdriver. It should pop off without much trouble.
