Best K6-2 Video Card.

My buddy is upgrading his K6-2/400 PCI card for an AGP card. Which would give him the best performance with a new DVD drive and light gaming, mostly business apps. He wants to spend around $100. His system is a K6-2/400 on an ASUS P5AB w/128MB and a generic sound card.

The best one you can get for around $100 is the Diamond Stealth III S540, it performs almost as good as a Voodoo3 3500!!! For a cheap price. Go to http://www.diamondmm.com/products/current/stealth3s540.asp for more info.

I think that he could get a voodoo3 2000. It's optimized for AMD systems or something like that. I don't know from experience but that's what i've heard alot.

I Think you should go for the V3 chipset. it is proved that with a 3DNow! system the Voodoo 3 is faster. this is because it was designed with 3DNOW! in mind, it also has DVD hardware assist. The Voodoo 3 3000 comes also with a DVD player software (winDVD)

Go for the Voodoo3 2000 or 3000. Both are greate and overclock wonderfully, but the 3000 has TV out. If you don't need TV out than get the 2000.

I agree with Todd a get the V3-2000 or V3-3000. I've tested both and very little difference except for TV-out on the V3-3000. By the way My K6-2 runs well with also.

Do you really benefit an increasing framerate using Voodoo3 with K6-2 processor?

The K6-2 FPU is a very limiting factor to use up a Voodoo3 power. Currently running a K6-2 400 at 500Mhz. Even at 500Mhz, it is clear for me that the K6-2 FPU is still the limiting factor to expect better framerate from my Banshee board.

At 800x600, 1024x768 and 1158x 864, the framerate is the same. This means there is still FPU bottleneck. If not, the frame speed should logically decrease a lot at higher resolution.

K6-2s and K6-3s work great with Matrox G-400,I am very happy with mine,super picture quality,DVD is perfect,and its plenty fast enough for 3D games.G-400 32meg dual,vanilla not the MAX is about $160
