Video Card Woes....

Hi,
I am at a fork in the road. I just put togeather a new system and I need to select a video card to replace the el cheapo one I got to get started.
here are my specs:
PIII 450
Abit Bx6r2
128 PC100
6.4 gig WD HD
SB 128
3com etherlink
USR 56k
Adaptec SCSI w/ CDR & CD

I do alot of AutoCAD work and some 3d studio MAX

I also like my games of course Quake 2 and the such.

I was looking at 3dfx V3 3000
a TNT2 or a G400
I'd like TV-out but I'm not solid on that
I'm not sure about the specs of each to make an intelligent choice
I don't no how much difference the 32 bit rendering wil make. and I beileve 3d studio won't work witht the 3dfx card.
I am welcome all intelligent comments.

If you have to buy a new video card NOW, buy...
The Matrox G400 MAX

If you can wait a month or two...

And if you can wait even longer, buy a Glaze3D

Of the current generation video cards, G400MAX has the best image quality AND framerate (using the TurboGL).

Anyways, what resolution are you using?

I currently run 1024x768 desktop
does the G400 have any know conflict proplems like the TNT2??

I don't know about any conflicts, but if you are doing alot of cad and 3DsMax work you DON'T want a V3. If you need glide suport go get a V2, but the V3's miniGL just dosen't Cut it in the CAD world. It WILL work (i speak from experiance) But you can do FAR better than a V3 for 3D studio.

That leaves The G400, or the TNT2. They are both pretty smoking 3d cards. Although the TNT2 has a slight edge in 3D speed, The G400 is a supirior 2D card.. And the MAX has a 2 monitor output (although in NT this won't help mutch)

I'ld have to sugjest the G400 for Cad work...And It will still Smoke in Quake2.
