I have a problem w/ 1st person games, they cut off your peripheral vision. I've been tryng to get over it though. I've been playing alot of Q3Test, System Shock 2, Kingpin. Good games, the peripheral thing still gets to me, not as bad though.
My fav's lately:
Revolt: a total blast of a RC racer
Rollcage: another racer
Drakan: This game is beautifull (so is the chick)
Total Annihilation: Kingdoms well done RTS
Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun, this kicks so much ***!!! Bringing back the good old Red Alert and adding cooler features, great acting for the movie sequences, not to mention James Earl Jones, and having great gameplay and a Random map generator for playing skirmish or Multi, this game rocks.
Another is Nocturne, just from playing the demo, this game is better than any game I have played before. If you saw and liked the blair witch project than this game is for you. Its mega scary and dark, and the demo made my jump more than any game, or movie for that matter. The graphics, even in software, I have a voodoo3 so it wont do hardware in the demo, are great, top notch and the animation is beyond belief. If you havent played this demo, download it, its big though, or get the latest Computer Gaming World to try this game, its absolutely awsome!!!

Are my current favorites.
Maybe weird games for someone who's into 3d-cards since they're both non-3d-accelerated games.
Having fun while playing is the most important thing.

kingdoms is a damn good game, and should have gotten much better reveiws i love it.
counterstrike, is a mod for half-life
let me put it this way, its the best mod, i have played (i have only tried TF once so...)
and its just amazing i highly recommend it to anyone that has half-life.
HL: counterstrikes is by far the best multiplayer I've played in awhile.
Heavy Gear II is pretty cool for single player, and I really like Soul Reaver.
Right now I'm in the middle of Drakan, and it so far has been very interesting and enjoyable. The only thing is, I hate playing as a girl... don't really understand why. I guess I'm just sexist. But, It is a great game...
I still enjoy older games like Jedi-Knight (quite possibly my favorite game ever)and Heretic II.
I'm also waiting for warcraft III... of course it was supposed to be out 2 years ago...

One cannot expect to find solutions to vast problems with half-vast ideas.
My fav games are probably everyone elses pet hates but here goes;
Blood 2 : The line "Youre Gonna need a bucket and a mop when i'm done with you !" gives me such a warm feeling inside.
Requiem: Its cool and nice colors, the animation is second to none (enemies)
Unreal: only just started to play, cause it wouldn't run quickly before until i put the Refresh Rate up to 120, the funny thing is my monitor only goes to 70 !. It has really nice graphics and those little kangaroo creatures are cool too.
Lastly
A V P: its the only game that freaks me out to play.
Buckaroo was that spring loaded plastic mule thingy that you had to take turns hanging things onto it's saddle. At a critical point the weight would trigger the release mechanism and the mule would buck up it's rear legs..... Whoever made it buck.. lost..
