Newbie on multiplayer gaming......need help

I'am new to multiplayer game. I've just download Gamespy 2.13 and I cannot seem to play Q2 because my ping is too high (700-800). I have a 56K V.90 modem. How can I set my ping low so it is playable? Please let me know if this is hardware related or something. Thanks ahead.

Are you arranging the servers by ping or map? My god-forsaken 28.8 get usually 225 ping.Keep trying servers, maybe it was the server was misbehaving that one day.

To solve thisd problem entirely why not spend the extra cash and get cable. My ping is around 25-30 with the cable modem.

try some of these things to try to improve your ping, but alot of these settings are subjective to your ISP. But it should improve your perfomance pretty well. Also do a phone line check, for example, are you actually able to connect to the V.90 standard? well just some ideas, good luck.
