    Disk Wipe Prevention

I just ran into something new to me. HP 6910p laptop with XP SP3 that had been installed over the original Vista by a shop that sold it to the guy I bought it from. I was wiping the hdd to install Win 7 and Dban stalled at [Syfs -- my approximation of the name]. I tried another of the wiping tools on UBCD and got a msg that indicated that there was something, maybe in the bios, that was blocking the erase. I tried another of the tools, that only wrote zeros in a single pass (first tool in the list on UBCD) and it succeeded.

I have never had Dban encounter anything like this before, and just wanted to mention it.

    Interesting to note.
If I had to guess, perhaps a proprietary recovery partition?
    "I know nothing."
    Cheers.

No, first thing I checked before wiping and installing was partitions. There was only one taking up the entire hdd. Also ran a hdd test of course.
