i was wanting to find a way to edit out commercials on movies i have recorded w/ w7 mediacenter

There is a free way to do this. Right click the wtv file in Windows Explorer to convert to dvr-ms. Then use Stephen Toub's DVR-MS Editor to edit the file as you wish. dvr-ms files show up in Record TV as well.

Another paid option would be Show Analyser which is designed to automatically mark ads.
