I have recently installed IE9 and works pretty good. The only thing that I find annoying is that everytime I drag an Http link to the desktop, it open's that page up and closes it on the frist screen. This happens for every link I drag to the desktop.
Strange, doesn't happen when I do it but you could try creating a New Folder on your Desktop and dragging the link into the folder, that might stop it being opened. Which version of Windows are you using ?
Just to make sure it is not a vestige of some temporary internet file you have lying around on your hard drive-have you cleared those out? CCleaner does a great job of that and cleans up other junk as well.
It might have something to do with the way your Desktop is set up. I have mine set to Windows Classic with everything else turned off to maximise my resources, i.e. Gadgets etc. It could be a question of playing with the options and settings inside W7 itself. I remember uninstalling certain functions including Gadgets by using Add/Remove and removing System functions from the list that I knew I wouldn't be using. I will however attempt to re-create your problem on my system and if it works I'll post back!
I've tried everything I can think of and no joy I'm afraid. Rather than putting links on your Desktop you could add the Favorites folder to the start menu and access your links from there but apart from that I can't think of anything else other than a possible setting somewhere that has to do with opening pages while off-line but as yet I haven't found that option. I'll keep trying though
You're welcome, sorry I couldn't be of more help but I think your idea of re-installing IE9 might solve the problem, reason I say that is because I had a problem with the first install of IE9 on my system, after I had re-installed it all worked well! Give it go
If you click the link and choose "Properties" from the context menu and then select the "General" tab you'll notice that the "Type of file:" is set to "Pinned Site Shortcut (.website)".
If you do the same thing for one of the links in the Favorites folder you'll notice that it has a different type: "Internet Shortcut (.url)".
In IE9 there is a trick to creating "Internet Shortcut (.url)" links.
You simply hold down the shift key while dragging the icon from the address bar!
