    You're welcome.

    Rather nasty security holes,
    Posted at VLC:
If successful, ... Arbitrary code execution could be possible on some systems.

Thumbs up [resolved] See post #10

Very annoying. Removed previous VLC version, installed new,, but it gave an error msg right away. Redownloaded from a different source with the same result. Looking for an older version to reinstall.

    OUch!
I did not encounter any error messages going from VLC media player version 2.0 to 2.0.1., using with Windows XP.

    For previous versions,
You can browse their FTP archive,

Very frustrating. I tried three older versions going back to 1.1.10 and all gave the same error msg at the same point early in the install. I disabled the firewall and av and had no change. Running XP, fully updated.

The previous version that worked no longer works?

What is the error message displayed?

What error message is that? Did you check the VLC support forum for that error?
    http://forum.videolan.org/

Did you try a system restore to a previous point?

Thanks, Midknyte. Looked through the Forum posts and picked up a clue with a mention of an old process running. I think the problem was too many tabs open in FF and one might have been using VLC. Since those attempts I've closed and reopened FF. And I learned from the forum that I do not need to uninstall the previous version -- the installer handles that. New version now installed.
